What “Uncensored” Actually Means Here
The word gets used loosely. In practice there are three different things behind it:
Range — how much the app will actually engage with. This is what most people mean, and it varies more than the marketing suggests.
Predictability — whether the limits are consistent. An app that refuses something on Tuesday and allows it on Thursday is more frustrating than one with a clear, firmer line.
Guardrails — every legitimate platform blocks illegal content, and should. We score apps higher on trust for having working safeguards, not lower. An app boasting that it has none is telling you something about its operators, not its capabilities.
The Trade-off Nobody Mentions
The most permissive apps in this category are rarely the most polished, and the most polished are rarely the most permissive. GirlfriendGPT and Candy AI sit at opposite ends of exactly that trade-off, which is why both are near the top for different readers.
If you want one companion that looks and behaves impressively, the polish matters more. If you want range, variety and a light touch on filtering, it does not.
